2021 TESLA MODEL Y LONG RANGE

DUAL MOTOR ALL-WHEEL DRIVE • PEARL WHITE MULTI-COAT • WHITE INTERIOR

LONG RANGE • PANORAMIC GLASS ROOF • THE EVERYDAY TESLA

THE MODEL Y SWEET SPOT

There are cars you buy with your heart, cars you buy with your head, and every once in a while there is one that makes a convincing argument to both. For me, the Tesla Model Y Long Range is exactly that kind of vehicle.

This 2021 example is beautifully specified in Pearl White Multi-Coat over Tesla's White interior, with the expansive panoramic glass roof and dark wheels providing just enough contrast. It is an incredibly clean, modern specification, but what makes this particular car even more appealing is its history: just two owners, a Clean Carfax, and no accidents or damage reported.

The Model Y has become such a familiar sight that I think it is sometimes easy to overlook just how complete the original idea was. Tesla combined the usefulness and elevated seating position of a crossover with the immediate response of an electric drivetrain, excellent cargo capacity, an incredibly open cabin, sophisticated software integration, and an ownership experience that still feels distinctly different from a conventional automobile.

In Long Range Dual Motor form, I think that formula makes even more sense.

WHY I LIKE THE LONG RANGE

I think the Long Range is where the Model Y really comes together as an everyday automobile. You still get everything that makes electric driving enjoyable — immediate response, smooth acceleration, quiet operation, and effortless power around town — while Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive and the additional driving range make the car equally convincing when your day extends beyond the normal commute.

What I particularly like is that you don't have to make excuses for this car because it is electric. It simply works as a very good automobile. There is plenty of passenger space, tremendous versatility behind the rear seats, additional storage under the floor and beneath the hood, and enough performance to make an ordinary drive considerably more entertaining than you might expect.

It can be your EV without needing to be your "EV experiment." It can simply be your car.

WHITE ON WHITE

I also think the specification is a major part of the appeal of this particular example. Pearl White Multi-Coat gives the Model Y a crisp, understated appearance, while the White interior completely transforms the atmosphere inside.

With the panoramic glass roof above you and Tesla's remarkably minimal dashboard ahead, the cabin feels bright, airy, and much larger than you might expect. The contrast between the white body, white cabin, dark glass, and dark wheels works especially well because there is very little visual clutter anywhere on the car.

Inside, nearly everything is centered around the large touchscreen, bringing navigation, media, climate controls, vehicle settings, cameras, and charging information together into one interface. Tesla's mobile-app integration and over-the-air software capability further contribute to an ownership experience that feels fundamentally different from the traditional automotive approach.

BUILT AROUND REAL LIFE

This is probably what I appreciate most about the Model Y: it is remarkably easy to live with.

Open the rear hatch and there is a genuinely useful cargo area. Fold the rear seats and that space becomes considerably larger, while additional storage beneath the cargo floor provides even more flexibility. Because there is no conventional engine occupying the space ahead of the passenger compartment, you also gain a front trunk.

That practicality allows the Model Y to handle the ordinary parts of life exceptionally well — groceries, luggage, commuting, family duties, airport runs, and road trips — without sacrificing what makes the electric drivetrain interesting.

Behind the wheel, power arrives immediately and smoothly, regenerative braking makes stop-and-go driving intuitive once you become accustomed to it, and the low-mounted battery contributes to a planted feeling on the road. Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive adds another level of confidence and capability, making this much more than simply an efficient commuter.

WHY I THINK THE MODEL Y WORKS

Tesla did something important with the Model Y. Instead of building an electric vehicle that required buyers to reorganize their lives around it, they built an electric crossover designed to fit naturally into everyday life.

That distinction is a big part of why I think the Model Y works so well. The technology is interesting, but the practicality is what makes the car compelling. You can enjoy the immediate electric performance on Monday morning, fill the cargo area on Saturday afternoon, take passengers out that evening, and leave on a longer journey the following day.

It doesn't need one specific purpose, and that is exactly the point. It simply does a lot of things very well.

THIS EXAMPLE

When looking at a pre-owned Tesla, I think condition and history matter tremendously, and this one gives us exactly the kind of combination we like to offer.

It is a two-owner example, while the overall presentation reflects the kind of ownership history we want to see. The Pearl White Multi-Coat presents beautifully, the White interior remains striking, and the entire car has the clean, modern appearance that makes this specification work so well.

MY TAKE

I think the best way to describe this Model Y is simply that it is an exceptionally complete all-rounder.

You have Long Range Dual Motor AWD, an excellent White-on-White specification, tremendous passenger and cargo versatility, instant electric performance, a technology-focused interior, and a clean two-owner history with no accidents or damage reported.

It is quick without needing to be aggressive, practical without feeling boring, technologically advanced without filling the cabin with switches and buttons, and spacious without becoming unnecessarily large.

Not every interesting automobile needs a V8, a manual gearbox, or an exotic badge. Sometimes what makes a car interesting is simply how effectively it solves the problem of being your everyday automobile.

I think the Model Y Long Range does exactly that.
